John Miller has specialised in the hospitality industry for over 30 years as a lawyer.
He represents clients in the liquor and hospitality industries dealing with a broad range of commercial and property issues, especially leasehold and commercial property development, joint ventures, and the sale, purchase, licensing and leasing of licensed businesses and licences.
In undertaking property development work, John has represented many clients in their dealings with the consent authorities and the State Government and in appeals to the Land and Environment Court.
John has acted for the State Government in developing public properties for hotel and restaurant use and in licensing special events and venues such as the Sydney Olympics, the Homebush Complex and the Sydney Casino, all of which involved sensitive changes in licensing laws.
He has represented clients in all levels of litigation from the Authority, Local Court to the High Court of Australia and Privy Council. He has also represented industry associations at Government inquiries into such issues as Sunday and late night trading, and prepared industry representations on proposed changes to licensing laws over many years.
